HOF Scoring
Statistics
WAR (Wins Above Replacement)
A single number that captures a player's total contribution in wins above a replacement-level player.
Batting Average (AVG)
The ratio of hits to at-bats — the oldest and most recognized offensive stat in baseball.
OPS (On-Base Plus Slugging)
On-base percentage plus slugging percentage — a simple, powerful measure of a hitter's overall offensive production.
ERA (Earned Run Average)
The average number of earned runs a pitcher allows per nine innings — the foundational pitching statistic.
wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus)
The most accurate single-number measure of offensive production — park and era adjusted, where 100 = league average.
FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching)
A pitching metric that isolates what a pitcher directly controls — strikeouts, walks, and home runs — eliminating fielding noise.
WHIP (Walks + Hits per Inning Pitched)
A measure of how many baserunners a pitcher allows per inning — lower is better.
OPS+ (Adjusted OPS)
OPS adjusted for ballpark and era, where 100 equals the league average — the standard for cross-era hitter comparison.
BABIP (Batting Average on Balls in Play)
The rate at which batted balls (excluding home runs) fall for hits — a key indicator of luck vs. skill.
Win Shares (NBA)
An estimate of the number of wins a player produces through offensive and defensive contributions — the NBA equivalent of WAR.
PER (Player Efficiency Rating)
A per-minute rating of a player's statistical production — league average is 15, elite is 25+.
BPM (Box Plus/Minus)
A box-score-based estimate of a player's contribution per 100 possessions relative to league average.
VORP (Value Over Replacement Player)
The total box score value a player provides over a replacement-level player — the NBA's closest equivalent to baseball's WAR.
True Shooting Percentage (TS%)
The most accurate measure of scoring efficiency — accounts for two-pointers, three-pointers, and free throws in a single number.
Usage Rate (USG%)
The percentage of team plays a player uses while on the court — a measure of offensive responsibility and volume.
Offensive / Defensive Rating
Points produced (or allowed) per 100 possessions — the standard pace-adjusted efficiency measures in basketball.
