wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus)
The most accurate single-number measure of offensive production — park and era adjusted, where 100 = league average.
wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus) is the gold standard for measuring a hitter's offensive production. It captures every offensive event — singles, doubles, home runs, walks, hit-by-pitches, stolen bases — weights them by their actual run value, and adjusts the result for both ballpark effects and the run environment of the era. The result is set so that 100 equals exactly league average.
A wRC+ of 150 means a player produced 50% more offensive value than the average hitter. A wRC+ of 170+ is elite — historic in context. A career wRC+ of 140+ is a Hall of Fame credential for any player with enough plate appearances.
wRC+ solves the main weakness of batting average (ignores walks and extra-base hits), OPS (double-counts slugging, park-unadjusted), and traditional RBI (team-dependent). It is the offensive metric most trusted by front offices and analysts.
