Win Shares (NBA)

An estimate of the number of wins a player produces through offensive and defensive contributions — the NBA equivalent of WAR.

Win Shares is a comprehensive metric developed by Dean Oliver and refined by Basketball Reference that estimates how many wins a player contributes to their team. It is split into Offensive Win Shares (OWS) and Defensive Win Shares (DWS).

Career Win Shares benchmarks for Hall of Fame: - 200+: near-certain Hall of Famer - 150–199: strong candidate - 100–149: borderline - Below 100: needs other credentials

LeBron James leads all active players with 260+ Win Shares. Nikola Jokic is on pace to challenge the all-time record through historically efficient offensive production.

AllFame uses Win Shares as the primary Career Value metric for NBA players, equivalent to WAR for MLB. It accounts for 30% of the NBA HOF Score.
